The first Lady Janet Museveni Kataha who is the current Member of Parliament has said that Uganda needs a leader whose interest is to serve others and will break the culture of corruotion being a ‘normal way’ of doing things in the country. Mrs. Museveni this when he was giving a presentation on Servant Leadership while in the NRM MP retreat last  week in Kyankwanzi District.
The renowned Born Again First lady used the biblical verse describing how a leader should be. “Servant hood, as a style of leadership, is modeled on the character of Jesus Christ who in Matthew Chapter 20 teaches that” she quoted “Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servants and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.” Therefore asked the elect NRM MPs to serve people but being corrupt to fulfill their personal desires.
Mrs. Janet Museveni who did not run again for the third term in Ruhaama but rather decided to step aside and let others rule decided to share her 10 year experience as an MP and told people to interact with the people they are leading, be up to date with district budgets and also consult on behalf of their people asking questions that would benefit people in their constituencies.
The First Lady Mama Janet Museveni shared her presentation on social media and below is what she said.
I was privileged to present a paper on Servant leadership in last week’s NRM MP elect retreat, and these are the highlights of the paper;
Uganda needs servant leaders whose interest is to serve others and who will break the culture of corruption being the “normal way” of doing anything in the country.
Our nation is now crying out for honest incorruptible leaders who are not just coming in to drive the cars they cannot afford, to build houses in which their families cannot be blessed, leaders who cannot add value to the people in whose names they have come.
Servant hood, as a style of leadership, is modeled on the character of Jesus Christ who in Matthew Chapter 20 teaches that, “Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servants and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.”
I encouraged them to use the time spent in Kyankwanzi to overcome their leadership weaknesses, rethink and plan ahead for new challenges and come out anew as a breath of fresh air exemplified by selflessness, humility and unity of purpose and with respect for one another instead of exploiting each other.
Sharing my experience as MP for Ruhaama Constituency for the last 10 years, I advised the NRM MPs to always identify with the people in their constituencies, be up to date with the districts’ budgets and ask appropriate questions on behalf of the people for effective monitoring of Government funds and programmes. Each of you should get involved in your respective districts because it is your duty to really push for better service delivery. It is okay for us to ask questions in our constituencies so that people can know that things should not just happen and continue going wrong in the Local Governments with impunity. This way the Movement would be doing its work and would also be keeping Government in order
