Ugandan Forward Sadat Happy Anaku has been unveiled by the Scottish Premier League side Dundee United on a permanent deal from Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC).
Anaku 21, was signed following several weeks of trials at the European side team where he went to in June together. He was awarded a 2 year contract that will see him play with the club until 2024.
The striker will join Bevis Mugabe in the Scottish Premier League who plays in the opponent team Motherwell F.C
Anaku’s performance during trials impressed bosses at Dundee United FC and they considered working him to improve their squad as the team seeks to maintain its presence in European Football competition having finished in the 4th position in the 2021/2022 season, qualifying for UEFA Conference League.
Dundee United Head Coach Jack Ross said acknowledged Anaku’s talent and was quoted saying “I’ve been really impressed with Sadat since he came in”
“You have to have a certain mental toughness to come in from overseas and settle” he continued “Sadat has done that by leaving a really good impression on the players and staff at United.”
Anaku is a prolific goal scorer having netted 83 times in 52 appearances for KCCA FC Junior team and 22 goals in 67 appearances for the KCCA FC senior team. He is the top scorer on the FUFA Junior League with 83 goals.
Upon signing for Dundee United FC, excited Anaku expressed his commitment to help score goals for the club in a bid to secure a first team number and maintain the competitive pace of European Football.
“I am so excited to join Dundee United and I am ready to work hard to help the team achieve its goals,” Anaku told the Club’s media team.
Dundee United Sporting Director Tony Asghar described Anaku as a hopeful signing highlighting his international potential in ‘ambitious’ Uganda Cranes that is hungry to make its first ever World Cup appearance and also maintain regular presence in Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“He’s coming from a country that has big ambitions and objectives and Sadat can become an integral part of that. Uganda want to get to the World Cup and the African Cup of Nations and Sadat is a player with real potential at international level.
“We identified his talent at an early stage and invited him to Scotland see how he could integrate into our group. We’re delighted with the impact he has made here so far” commented Tony Asghar
He pointed out Dundee United’s commitment to get the best out of Sadat Anaku
“Is he good enough to take the next level beyond that? Yes, that’s now down to us to develop him.” He affirmed.
Born on December 9, 2000, Sadat Happy Anaku was scouted by KCCA at the age of 16 where he played in the junior team from 2016 to 2019. He was promoted to the senior team in 2019 where he was capped 67 times and scored 22 goals.
He was summoned to Uganda Cranes provisional squad of 45 in January 2022 but he is yet to be capped for the Uganda Cranes.
While on trials, Anaku made an impressive performance in 3 friendlies vs Leicester U21s, Arsenal U21s and Newcastle United and was also able to score a hattrick n a 6-2 Dundee United B Team win over Queen’s Park earlier this week.
