In a move to stabilize the Rwenzori region which has been unstable for the past one and a half months in the after election attacks, the president of the republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Musevenu who is currently in the Rwenzori region to stabilize peace has met and hold discussions with opposition leaders in the Kasese region.
The opposition leaders were led by the area woman mp Winnie Kizza who led the opposition delegation mainly from FDC to Mweya Safari Lodge where the discussion was to be held. Kasese is the only district that voted opposition leaders starting from the MPs to the LC 5 Councilors.
The two sides discussed various possible means to use in resolving the tribal conflicts which has made thousands of people flee their homes and run to refugee camps. The president requested them to stop preaching the sectarian message that keeps on diving people and told them to help in uniting people.
This is possibly the first time in history the president of Uganda is engaging the opposition leaders in looking for solutions that can help bring peace in the country. In the past, the NRM Caucus could help solve the situation but Kasese being a pure opposition district; the caucus could help little in looking for solutions to bring peace on the ground. We hope that the meeting will be the beginning of the peace period in the Rwenzori region.
