Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake has been beaten by security officers in Kayunga today in the afternoon.

The MP was seriously injured as he joined the National Unity Platform team to campaign for their Kayunga District Chairperson candidate Nakweede Harriet on the final day of open campaigns.

Hon. Zaake who had just left Arusha for the East African Parliamentary games where he won a medal after leading 100 Metres men’s race is currently admitted to hospital in Jinja according to NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine.

“Violence meted out on our leaders in Kayunga. Several severely injured. Hon. @ZaakeFrancis has been badly beaten by SFC soldiers and he’s now currently admitted at a hospital in Jinja” Bobi Wine revealed.

Earlier today, police was deployed at the leader of NUP President Bobi Wine’s home in Magere a neighborhood in Kasangati, Wakiso to prevent him from heading to Kayunga where he was expected on the final day of the rallies.

Bobi Wine’s Gatekeepers, Security personnel and other workers including a gardener were allegedly arrested by police and taken in police patrol cars.

The by elections in Kayunga seek to replace Mr. Sserubogo Ffeffeka who was found dead earlier this year shortly after swearing in. Harriet Nakweede Kafeero of NUP, Andrew Muwonge of NRM, Anthony Waddimba of DP and independents Jamil Kamoga, Boniface Bandikubi and Majid Nyanzi are the candidates in the race.

The campaigns that started peacefully finally got bloody on the last day just 2 days to the elections with various National Unity Platform supporters injured and nursing wounds.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is already in the district to look for votes for his party’s candidate Andrew Muwonge.
