Turyasingura succumbed to the COVID-19 which is on a high rise in Uganda in what some experts are starting to refer as the second wave of COVID-19 in the country.
Who is Mathias Turyasingura?
Turyasingura was born in Kabale District, Western Uganda. He joined Kabalye Police Training School in 2007 at the time when the Late Andrew Kaweesi was the commandant of the training ground and Kale Kayihura the Inspector General of Police.
Turyasingura after passing the training was deployed and he later did an intermediate course from Kaweweta Scchool. After finishing the senior command and staff course, Turyasingura was appointed DPC Kira Road replacing Michael Kasigire who was transferred to Entebbe. Before being appointed the DPC Kira, he was first appointed as DPC Mbale Police region.
Turyasingura according to his workmates felt ill a fortnight ago and left the office and started receiving treatment from unnamed clinic in Mpererwe, a neighborhood in Kawempe, Kampala. The situation later deteriorated and few days ago, he was transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital where upon carrying tests, he tested COVID-19 positive. He was then treated till when he breathed his last.
With frontline workers, security personnel and elderly being the first to be vaccinated according to Uganda’s vaccination program, Turyasingura Mathias had reportedly received a single dose of Oxford-Astrazeneca Vaccine and was one of around 9000 Police officers that have so far turned up for the COVID-19 vaccination programme.
