Uganda ranks the third most corrupt country in East Africa in  2021 report

In the latest 2021 Corruption Index released by Transparency International, Uganda has beaten Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania hands down to rank the third most corrupt country in the East African community only behind Burundi and South Sudan.

In the report that was released on 25th January, Uganda scored 27 on the scale of 0 -100 where 0 score is for the most corrupt and 100 for the corruption free.

Rwanda ranked the least corrupt in the East African community with 53 points and the 5th in Africa only behind Seychelles (70), Cabo Verde/Cape Verde (58), Botswana (55) and Mauritius (54). South Sudan (11), Somalia (13) and Equatorial Guinea (17) are the most corrupt countries in Africa.

South Sudan did not only rank the most corrupt in East Africa but was also the most corrupt in the whole world with 11 points followed by Syria (13) and Somalia (13).

Denmark, New Zealand and Finland are the least corrupt countries in the world with 88 points each on a scale of 0 – 100.

Uganda and Cameroon were further classified among countries that used the excuse of COVID-19 to suppress freedom of expression and limit the spread of information.
