Speaker of Parliament Hon. Jacob Oulanyah Dies at 56

Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon. Jacob Oulanyah has been declared dead today in a hospital in Seattle, United States.

Jacob Oulanyah was flown to America in a critical condition on February 4th 2022 and his condition did not get better since then.

His death was announced by the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at 13:00 EAT who said that he received the news of Oulanyah’s death at 10:30 but delayed announcing waiting for his children to be informed first.

Countrymen and Countrywomen. It is with a lot of sadness that I announce the death of the Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, the Speaker of Parliament.” Museveni said on Twitter I got information of this sad news at 10.30am,….. I delayed the announcement so that his children would be informed first.”

Jacob Oulanyah was the speaker of parliament from 2021 May up to his death. Before that, he was the Deputy Speaker of Parliament from 2011 – 2021.

He was also the Member of Parliament Omoro County from 2001 to 2006 and then from 2011 to his death in 2022.

Details about his death and burial arrangements will be communicated as they arrive.
