Sigire Adonia has been declared a winner of the concluded hotly contested guild elections at Bishop Stuart University – Mbarara.
Sigire defeated his rival Turyomuriwe Godius with 334 votes in an election that was held yesterday on 20th August 2022.
The election process and campaign activities at both campuses of the University in Kakoba and Ruharo were generally peaceful until a day before elections when team Sigire claimed to have caught red handed team of NRM affiliated candidate Turyomuriwe Godius with pre-ticked ballot papers whom they exposed a recorded video.
“After watching the circulating video of Ballot papers being ticked in favor of a certain candidate in the ongoing Guild presidential race .As a victim of this act.. I’m really concerned, why does this habit of Ballot stuffing by NRM Mafias has always denied Bishop Stuart university students a chance to get better leaders” Twijukye Colleb Rwasiina a former guild candidate 2021/2022 complained.
Much as Bishop Stuart University banned elections of political parties in the University, it has been a common practice for guild candidates coming from their political parties and even using colors of their respective political parties.
A total of 2115 votes were cast yesterday, 95 of them being invalid. Of the 2020 valid votes, Sigire had 1177 votes while Godius had 843 votes.
Once sworn in Sigire Adonia will replace Beingana Emmanuel who has been the current guild of Bishop Stuart University.
