Newly Appointed Commander Land Force, Lt Gen. Muhoozi Takes Over Office

The newly appointed Commander Land Force (CLF) Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba who is also the 1st son took over the office yesterday following his appointment by his father president Museveni on 24th/06/2021.

According to the UPDF spokesperson, Brig Flavia Byekwaso, outgoing Chief of Staff Land Force (CoS LF) Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda also handed over office to his successor, Brig Gen Bob Ogiki, outgoing Deputy Commander Land Force (D/CLF), Maj Gen Sam Kavuma (Right) handed over to his successor, Maj Gen Sam Okiding

‘‘Newly appointed Commander Land Force (CLF) Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba takes over office today. Once again, we congratulate the General for the well-deserved appointment.’’, UPDF spokesperson Bwekwaso tweeted yesterday.

‘‘CLF Lt-Gen. Muhoozi will be focusing on Enhancing UPDF combat capabilities, addressing the welfare deficits, Ensuring health of soldiers against the pandemic, but also other previous pandemics intensifying the Political Education of all our officers and men.’’, UPDF spokesperson added

Kainerugba who has been the elite presidential guards, Special Forces Commander (SFC) was replaced by Brig. Peter Chandia.

Museveni also appointed Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda was the chief of staff Land Forces, as the new Joint Chief of Staff. Kyanda replaces Lt. Gen Joseph Musanyufu who was sent to civil service for redeployment.

Maj. Gen Sam Kavuma was appointed the deputy coordinator of the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) whereas Maj Gen Sam Okiding is the new deputy commander of Land Forces.

In 2016, Elwelu commanded the army attack on the Rwenzururu Palace at the climax of long-standing tension, between the government and the Rwenzururu kingdom. The attack led to the death of more than 100 people.
In the other appointments, Brig. Bob Ogik was appointed chief of staff of the Land Forces, Brigadier Daniel Kakono the commander of Filed Artillery Division.

Lt. Gen Charles Angina, who was the deputy coordinator OWC, was posted to the ministry of Foreign Affairs for redeployment.

Maj. Gen Kasura Kyomukama was deployed to the civil service while Brigadier Gen Charles Kisembo was appointed commandant Kyankwanzi Political School

1st son Muhoozi was appointed back to the Special Forces Command in December last year in sweeping changes that President Museveni, who also the commander in chief of the armed forces is made in the security set up of the country.
The recent changes mean that the First Son spent only six months in his second stint as the commander of the UPDF elite unit mandated to protect the president and members of the first family.
