The General Court Martial sitting in Makindye Barracks Army court has this afternoon granted bail to 14 of the 35 National Unity Platform supporters who were arrested on December 30th in 2020 in Kalangala.

The released 14 were given a non cash bail of 20M each while their sureties were given a non cash bond of UGX 50M each.

The 35 were arrested on allegations of being found with arms in possession in what many termed as political prosecution since they belonged to the campaign team of the leading opposition figure Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine.

Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, Hon. Wasswa Bufumbiro, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga and Sec. David Rubongoya were some of the sureties at the court.

After several attempts to have them granted bail, court has given bail to only 14 members saying they have not yet studied all submitted affidavits and the remaining 21 who include Eddy Mutwe, Bobi Wine’s bodyguard, Buken Ali aka Nubian Li Bobi Wine’s signing partner and a friend plus Dan Magic a music producer were not released and have been taken back to Kitalya until June 8th.

The released members were Samson Ssekiranda, Mude Ntambi Robison, Don Sharif, Katamba Robert, Kyabagu Pumper, Kigongo Faiso popularly known as Ras Faizo, Mulilira Musa, Sam Mutumba, Mukasa Husein, Sunday John Bosco and Tamale Fahad and Nyanzi William.
