Final Verdict: Mbabazi petition dismissed by CJ Katureebe, M7 wins the case

The anticipated Election Petition filed by Amama Mbabazi the independent presidential candidate from the TDA/Go forward to the Supreme Court calling for the recounting of votes and requesting the Court to annul the win of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has finally come to the end. The Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has finally given the final verdict and the case ended turning against the petitioner.
Bart Katureebe dismissed the petition saying that the Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was validly elected. He however dismissed the petition and without any order of costs. The Chief Justice said that the evidence brought by the petitioner was not enough to pin the 1st responded that he rigged the elections. “There was non-compliance but we’re not satisfied it affected the results in a substantial manner” Said Bart Karureebe “Court had the opportunity to examine the Declaration of Results (DR) forms. There were no discrepancies in the results used to declare winner. Petitioner didn’t produce any DR forms to prove alleged discrepancies in the results relied on the announce winner”
The Chief Justice added that the hoes which were given to the people of Arua by the Prime Minister was a campaign started in 2012/2013 and therefore it shouldn’t be linked with the election campaigns “The supply of hoes commenced in 2012/13 Financial Year. First respondent did not engage in bribery as alleged” He therefore says it is not necessary to recount votes in the 44 districts “It is not necessary to order for a recount in the 44 districts”. He further continued and said that the Supreme Court will give its detailed reasons why it dismissed the petition within 90 days.
