Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV celebrated his 7th coronation ceremony at a function held at Igenge Royal Palace in Bugembe, Jinja city.
In the History of the Kybazingaship, William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, the Gabula of Bugabula, is the reigning Kyabazinga of Busoga, a constitutional kingdom in modern-day Uganda.
Gabula is the fourth Kyabazinga of Busoga after succeeding Wilson Gabula Nadiope who died in 2008.
Busoga is home for 11 principalities and the Kyabazinga is selected among the 11 principalities and these include Bugabula, Bugweri, Bukholi, Bukono, Bulamogi, Bunhole, Bunya, Busiki, Butembe, Kigulu and Luuka
Minister of East African affairs and Kamuli Woman MP Rebecca Kadaga also arrived for the 7th coronation ceremony.
Following the abolishment of Kyabazinga of Busoga in 1967 during Milton Obote’s regime as the president of Uganda by then when disbanded all traditional institutions within the country, the Kyabazinga was restored with the restoration of traditional institutions in 1993 and Busoga re-crowned Henry Wako Muloki on 11 February 1995.
Muloki died on 1 September 2008. Since his death, the throne has been contested between Isebantu Edward Columbus Wambuzi Zibondo XIII, and William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV.
On 31 October 2008, Wambuzi was declared the winner of an election which was immediately challenged by Chief Fred Menhya Kakaire.
Though the challenge was unsuccessful, “Prince Wambuzi was never recognized by the courts and government therefore, never enthroned, creating an eight-year vacuum
Gabula was formally elected on 23 August 2014 and crowned on 13 September though Wambuzi accused Gabula of fraudulently attaining the throne, and then dubiously changing the Busoga constitution in November 2017.
Ezekiel Tenywa Wako was the first Kyabazinga of Busoga reigned in 1939 to 1949, followed by William Wilberforce Nadiope ii from 1949-1955, Henry Wako Muloki i from1955-1967 then interregnum from 1967 up to 1995, Henry Wako Muloki then took over again from1995 untill his death in 2008 and then succeeded by Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope iv from 2014 up to date.
On Thursday during celebrations to mark his 21st anniversary as the royal chief of Bugabula chiefdom at the Budhumbula Palace in Kamuli, Kyabazinga asked his subjects to live by the values of Busoga Kingdom anthem, Busoga okwisania namaanhi (meaning Busoga is stronger together).
William Nadiope Gabula IV also challenged his subjects to stop early marriages and teenage pregnancies and embrace modern agriculture to ensure food security.
The function was graced by deputy premier and minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Kadaga, Forum for Democratic Change party vice chairperson (eastern) Salaam Musumba, Kamuli Municipality MP Baroda Watongola, Buyende Woman MP Annet Mary Nakato and Kamuli District chairperson Maxwell Kuwembula, among others.
Yesterday, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro also celebrated his 26th coronation anniversary at the Kings palace at Karuziika in Fort Portal city.
