Museveni summons an emergency COVID-19 meeting

Amidst galloping COVID-19 cases, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called for re-instatement of emergency COVID-19 task force that shall oversee the measures to be taken to tackle the incoming wave of COVID-19 in Uganda.

In a letter that was seen by The Pearl Post, the president directed a temporary National Task Force for COVID-19 be instituted and will be comprised of the permanent secretaries and the under secretaries pending the announcement and approval of 2021-2026 cabinet.

The purpose of this National Task Force according to the letter that was written and signed by Ministry of Health permanent secretary Diana Atwiine, is to handle the ‘re-insurgence of COVID-19’.

The letter called for the emergence meeting of task force in the Presidential Conference Hall at State House. The meeting will happen today on May 27, 2021 with members of the task force and partners being invited.

Emergency COVID-19 Meeting

It is from this re-insurgence which experts are defining as the second wave that the president has formed a National task force to handle the COVID-19 as the new cabinet gets announced and vetted in.

New measures are expected to be announced after the meeting which might include re-instatement of night curfew, mandatory wearing of masks when outdoor, washing of hands and sanitizing when entering all public buildings and parks etc.
